Wanjiru sets half-marathon record in 58:53

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Kenya's Sammy Wanjiru regained the world record in the half-marathon Friday after Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie broke the mark last year.

Wanjiru won in 58 minutes, 53 seconds, at the Ras Al Khaimah International Half Marathon.

Gebrselassie ran 58:55 in Phoenix on Jan. 15, 2006, to break Wanjiru's then record of 59:16 set in 2005.
