Rough final 40 seconds could decide men's downhill

SCHLADMING, Austria -- For about three quarters of the course, the men's downhill at the world championships features long jumps onto bumpy straightaways and sweeping, wide turns.

Then the real action begins.

Skiers take a hard right turn at the Italienerloch curve -- named for the Italian racers who struggled at that point in years past -- and dive into the course's steepest and most technical section.

The race is Saturday.
