Boston bidding for 2016 world championships

BOSTON -- U.S. Figure Skating has nominated Boston to host the 2016 World Figure Skating Championships.

The event has never been held in Boston.

Worlds were last held in the United States in 2009, when Evan Lysacek won the title in Los Angeles. He won the Vancouver Olympics gold medal the next year.

Boston will be the site of next year's U.S. championships, when the team for the Sochi Olympics will be chosen. That also will be the 100th U.S. nationals.
