Remy Di Gregorio wins seventh stage
BIOT-SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS, France -- Frenchman Remy Di Gregorio launched an attack eight miles from the finish to claim a solo victory in the seventh stage of Paris-Nice on Saturday.
German rider Tony Martin placed fifth to retain the leader's yellow jersey going into Sunday's final stage to Nice.
Under heavy rain, Di Gregorio made his move after Karsten Kroon was caught by the pack and then held off his rivals over the final miles. Saturday's 134-mile stage was the longest of the race.
"The whole Astana team did a huge job and I tried my luck," Di Gregorio said. "I took some risks, I almost fell but I had to go for it."
