DENVER -- The world's second-ranked cycling team and three-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador plan to participate in the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

Race officials said Thursday that Denmark-based Saxo Bank-SunGuard joins a list of 10 other professional teams signed up for the inaugural race, scheduled for Aug. 22-28.

The 500-plus-mile race will start in Colorado Springs and finish in Denver, going over several mountain passes, some of them more than 12,000 feet in elevation.

Contador is scheduled to appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Aug. 1. The International Cycling Union and World Anti-Doping Agency are challenging the Spanish cycling federation's decision to clear him of doping after he tested positive for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol last year. Contador has said he consumed the drug in contaminated beef.
