Michelle Kwan elected to board

WASHINGTON -- Michelle Kwan has been elected to the Special Olympics' international board of directors.
Kwan, the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history, is a two-time Olympic medalist, a five-time world champion and a nine-time U.S. champion. She currently is a public diplomacy envoy for the State Department and a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. Kwan has been actively involved with Special Olympics since 2005.
The board of directors is the governing authority for the Special Olympics, responsible for its global affairs and strategies. Members are elected to a three-year term and may serve a maximum of nine consecutive years of service.
