Worlds awaits Japan organizers' reply
ROME -- Figure skating's ruling body will consider moving the world championships if Japanese organizers are unable by Monday to commit to hosting the event at a later date.
The championships were to begin next week in Tokyo but were postponed because the earthquake and tsunami have left the country in crisis.
International Skating Union president Ottavio Cinquanta sent a letter to Japanese organizers Tuesday asking if they could still host.
He tells The Associated Press that his organization will "move forward" if it doesn't hear from the Japanese by early Monday morning.
Alternatives include holding the worlds at the end of April or the beginning of May, with the United States, Canada, Finland, Germany and Russia as possible hosts.
