Mitchell to have surgery on torn cartilage
PORTLAND, Ore. -- U.S. ice dancing bronze medalists Loren Galler-Rabinowitz and David Mitchell withdrew Thursday from next month's national championships because of Mitchell's shoulder injury.
Mitchell has torn cartilage in his left shoulder and plans to have surgery.
"This is a great disappointment for myself, Loren and (coach) Natalia Dubova," Mitchell said. "We have been working very hard to improve our skating, and we regret that this injury will prevent us from showcasing our talents this year at nationals. Loren and I will return to competition next season and look forward to competing for a spot on the 2006 U.S. Olympic team."
The U.S. Championships are Jan. 9-16.
