MIDWAY, Utah -- Lindsay Williams and Olympian Torin Koos won national sprint titles Saturday in the U.S. Cross Country Championships.

Williams, a junior at Northern Michigan University from St. Paul, Minn., took the lead on the first hill and led the rest of the way on the 1-kilometer route at Soldier Hollow. Wendy Wagner of nearby Park City was second, and Rebecca Dussault of Gunnison, Colo., who won two titles earlier in the week, was third.

Koos, from Leavenworth, Wash., took the lead on the second hill and finished two strides ahead of Andy Newell of Shaftsbury, Vt., with Zach Simons, also of Park City, following in third. Koos finished 35th in the Olympic 1.5-kilometer sprint at Soldier Hollow while he was a student at the University of Utah.

Last season, Koos and Newell became the first U.S. Ski Team members to finish in the top 20 of the same World Cup sprint. They will travel to Europe on Tuesday to rejoin the World Cup tour.
