WASHINGTON -- President Bush is endorsing New York City's bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The president taped a minute-long video message last week boosting the bid, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Wednesday. An International Olympic Committee group evaluating five bids for the games is visiting New York this week.
"He believes that having the Olympics in New York would build bridges across cultures and bring the world's greatest sporting event to one of the world's greatest cities," Perino said.
New York is in the running for the 2012 Games with Madrid, London, Paris and Moscow. The evaluation team is visiting each city for three days.
