King, Stephens lead Team USA

LINKOPING, Sweden -- Katie King and Kelly Stephens each had two goals and one assist, leading the United States past Germany 7-0 Tuesday and into the semifinals of the women's world hockey championships.

The unbeaten Americans finish round-robin play against Finland on Wednesday.

The Finns beat China 5-1 in the other Group B game at nearby Norrkoping to join the United States in the semis with a 2-0 record.

Julie Chu, Kathleen Kauth and King scored goals within a span of 13 seconds early in the first period for the U.S. team. Krissy Wendell and King, a member of the 1998 Olympic gold medal team and a 2002 Olympic silver medalist, made it 5-0 with goals just 37 seconds apart late in the opening period.

Stephens scored the last two goals in the second and third periods.

At Norrkoping, Satu Hoikkala led Finland with two goals. Jenni Hiirikoski, Saara Touminen, and Terhi Mertanen added goals, and Zhang scored for China.

Canada and host Sweden clinched their semifinal spots Monday.

The semifinals are Friday, followed by the finals on Saturday.
