Americans beat Sweden 6-2
PLZEN, Czech Republic -- Phil Kessel and Nathan Gerbe each had a goal and two assists as the United States beat Sweden 6-2 on Friday to advance to the final of the world under-18 ice hockey championship.
The Americans advanced to Sunday's championship game against Canada, a 3-2 overtime winner over the Czech Republic in Friday's other semifinal.
Kessel scored his tournament-leading seventh goal midway through the first period and set up Peter Mueller for a pair of scores in the first 2:46 of the second, helping the Americans to a 3-0 lead.
Gerbe assisted on Kyle Lawson's power-play goal midway through the second, scored and set up Chad Rau midway through the final period.
Goaltender Jeff Frazee stopped 19 for the United States.
