Longhorns' Osterman named to third U.S. squad
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Cat Osterman, who led Texas to a pair of Women's College World Series berths and won an Olympic gold medal in between, has been named to the U.S. National Softball Team for the third time.
Osterman is one of 11 returning players from a team that allowed just one run in winning the gold medal in Athens last summer. The 18-member national team will play an exhibition against Australia on July 12 in Irvine, Calif., before competing in the first World Cup of Softball July 14-18 in Oklahoma City.
The team also will try to defend its Japan Cup title starting in late July.
Osterman, the youngest member of the dominant pitching staff in Athens, was the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2003 and 2005. The Longhorns reached the Women's CWS both years. Osterman, who will be a senior, has a career record of 98-21 at Texas with a 0.54 ERA.
