Mancebo wins stage 10 in Spain; Menchov retains lead


D'ORDINO-ARCALIS, Andorra -- Spain's Francisco Mancebo won
the 10th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Monday while Russia's Denis
Menchov kept the overall lead in the first day of racing in the

Mancebo finished the 128-mile mountain stage from Vall d'En Bas
to the D'Ordino-Arcalis ski resort in Andorra in 5 hours, 33
minutes, 49 seconds. Roberto Heras -- the race winner in 2000, 2003
and 2004 -- was second. Menchov, who captured the previous stage,
was third.

"The pity is that with the tension of the sprint finish I
forgot to dedicate my win to my daughter," Mancebo said.

The 21-stage race ends Sept. 18 in Madrid.
