LAGOS DE COVADONGA, Spain -- Spain's Eladio Jimenez won the 14th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Saturday -- his third this year in Spain's premier cycling race -- and Russia's Denis Menchov kept the overall lead.
Jimenez covered the 107 miles from La Penilla to Lagos de Covadonga in northern Spain in 4 hours, 25 minutes, 36 seconds. Spain's Inigo Cuesta was second, 1 minute, 20 seconds back, followed by Italy's Gilberto Simoni. Menchov was fifth and defending champion Roberto Heras of Spain was sixth.
Sunday's 119-mile route from Cangas de Onis to the Valgrande-Pajares ski resort features seven mountain passes. The 21-stage tour ends Sept. 18 in Madrid.
