SYDNEY, Australia -- Australian Libby Lenton broke the world
short-course 200-meter freestyle record Saturday at a World Cup swim meet at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre.
Lenton finished in 1 minute, 53.29 seconds to break the previous
mark held by American Lindsay Benko by 0.75 seconds. Benko's mark
of 1:54.04 was set in Moscow on April 7, 2002.
"It's a great way to end the year of racing," said Lenton, who
finished two body lengths in front. "It's a bit nerve-wracking
because you feel you've gone out too hard."
Australians Kelly Stubbins and Elka Graham, were second
and third respectively.
