Triple jumper Sands suspended for positive test
MELBOURNE, Australia -- Triple jumper Leevan Sands, who starred at Auburn and won a bronze medal at the 2003 world championships, has been suspended for testing positive for a banned substance.
Bahamas team leader Bernard Livingstone-Bostwick, speaking at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, said the 24-year-old Sands was "suspended from IAAF competitions until he's been exonerated."
Livingstone-Bostwick said Sands tested positive Feb. 11 at the NCAA indoor championships in Fayetteville, Ark. The team leader did not say what drug had been detected.
Sands finished fourth in the triple jump at the world championships in Helsinki last August. He initially was named as part of the Bahamas team for the Commonwealth Games, but didn't travel to Melbourne.
