Parker, Thompson lead U.S. over China
CANBERRA, Australia -- Tennessee's Candace Parker scored 17 points and Houston Comets star Tina Thompson had 14 points and 12 rebounds to help the U.S. women's team beat China 87-53 on Monday in the Opals World Challenge.
The United States, 3-0 in the tournament, will face Taiwan on Tuesday and complete play against Australia on Wednesday.
"Our focus coming in today, in all three games in Canberra, was to play much better defense than we did in Cairns," U.S. coach Anne Donovan said.
"We put teams on the free throw line way too much. We're trying to clean it up defensively and I think we can do a better job with our help side than we did tonight, but overall it's a step in the right direction.
