Quinn to coach Canada at six-team tourney
CALGARY, Alberta -- Former Toronto Maple Leafs coach Pat Quinn is returning to the bench to lead Canada at the Spengler Cup.
He accepted an invitation from Hockey Canada to coach during the annual six-team holiday tournament from Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland. Canada will field a team of Canadians playing in Europe and some American Hockey League players.
"These types of events are way different than coaching a team for a yearlong basis, but it's still an opportunity to be around young people that are competitive," Quinn told The Canadian Press. "And being with a team that represents Canada is always a special thing, too."
Quinn coached Canada to the gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games and was behind the bench for Canada's quarterfinal exit at the Torino Olympics.
