Hit to head costs Ovechkin a game at hockey worlds
MOSCOW -- Alexander Ovechkin received a one game suspension Sunday for a hit to the head of Swiss player Valentin Wirz at the world championships.
Ovechkin was ejected in the first period of Russia's 6-3 win. Wirz, who had a slight concussion, needed to be helped off the ice.
Ovechkin will miss Monday's game against Sweden. Russia already has qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament with a 5-0 record, and the game against Sweden will help determine pairings for the quarterfinals.
