Two-time Olympic beach volleyball champion Kerri Walsh found something to keep her busy after winning her second straight gold medal: She's pregnant.
Walsh and husband Casey Jennings, a fellow pro beach volleyball player, are expecting a child in the spring.
"I'm chubby and I'm pregnant and it's awesome," she said Wednesday in an interview with Access Hollywood and radio host Billy Bush. "I'm used to living my life in a bikini, and I'm definitely not bikini-ready. I think the chubbiness is all relative, but it's for the very best cause in the whole wide world, is what I keep telling myself. And I'm pretty proud of it."
Walsh and teammate Misty May-Treanor said during the Olympics that they planned to take some time off after the games to start families, a move they delayed so they can compete in Beijing and go for their second straight gold medal. May-Treanor is married to Florida Marlins catcher Matt Treanor.
"I know she's trying, and that's all I can say," Walsh said.
Jennings joined Walsh in Beijing near the end of the Games -- just in time to see her and May-Treanor beat China for the gold. Walsh said the baby was conceived in China, after the gold medal match.
"I can't believe how vocal we were about starting a family," Walsh said in the interview. "I have no idea what compelled to be so open about it. But obviously we were very excited.
"I've been such a single-minded person for so long but I have wanted a family. Now that it's a reality almost, I watch 'A Baby Story' every day, and I'm kind of freaking out. I have my good days and my bad days."
