Americans roll over Canberra Capitals behind Lawson's 20 points
EKATERINBURG, Russia -- Kara Lawson scored 20 points of the bench to lead the U.S. Select Team to a 93-49 win over the Canberra Capitals in their opening game at the FIBA World League Tournament on Monday.
Janel McCarville added 15 points, Diana Taurasi had 12, Cappie Pondexter 11 and Taj McWilliams-Franklin 10.
Jessica Bibby scored 13 points and Crysta Hays 10 points for the Capitals, two-time champions of Australia's WNBL.
"With the exception of about one quarter I felt we played really well today ... " said U.S. coach Anne Donovan, who also coaches the Seattle Storm. "All things considered I was pleased, it was a good win for us.''
The select team consists of eight players from the national team who are candidates for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Women's Basketball Team.
The tournament final is Saturday.
