U.S. will play for gold at World Juniors
SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island -- The United States beat Russia 6-3 Friday and will play for the gold medal at the 2009 World Junior A Hockey Challenge.
The United States, winners of last year's 19-and-under tournament in Camrose, Alberta, will face Canada West, a 9-1 semifinal winner over Canada East on Friday night. The final is Sunday.
The United States jumped to a 3-0 first-period lead on goals by Connor Brickley, Shane Berschbach and Jeff Costello. Russia did not record its first shot until almost 12 minutes in and was outshot 38-16 overall.
The other U.S. goals were by Nick Mattson, Beau Bennett and Colten St. Clair. Alexey Marchenko, Nail Yakupov and Ignat Zemchenko scored for Russia.
