Pole's previous best finish was second
OSTERSUND, Sweden -- Magdalena Gwizdon of Poland combined perfect shooting with strong cross-country skiing Friday to win her first World Cup biathlon race.
Gwizdon finished the 7.5-kilometer sprint event in 24 minutes, 5.0 seconds. Kati Wilhelm was second, 21.4 seconds behind with one miss.
Fellow German Martina Glagow was third, 35.2 seconds back after missing one target.
Tatiana Moiseeva of Russia, who shot perfectly, missed her first podium by 0.10 to finish fourth.
Gwizdon's previous best was a second in Torino in the 2004-05 season.
"I've had problems with my shooting before but not today -- it was perfect," Gwizdon said.
On Saturday, the men compete in the sprint. Men's and women's pursuit races conclude Sunday.
