Olofsson extends World Cup biathlon lead with win
POKLJUKA, Slovenia -- World Cup biathlon leader Anna Carin Olofsson won a 7.5-kilometer sprint Wednesday to extend her lead in the overall standings.
The Olympic mass start champion won in 21 minutes, 45.2 seconds, missing one target.
Tatiana Moiseeva of Russia was faultless at the range and came in second, 6.8 seconds behind, while defending World Cup champion Kati Wilhelm of Germany was third, 17.4 seconds behind.
Oloffson surged toward the finish with strong cross-country skiing despite the extra penalty lap. It was her third victory of the season and ninth career title.
The Swede leads the overall standings with 432 points, 22 ahead of Wilhelm. She also leads Wilhelm 222-215 in the discipline standings.
