Karbon's World Cuip season ended by ankle injury
TARVISIO, Italy -- Italian ski racer Denise Karbon will miss the rest of the World Cup season after fracturing a bone in her ankle, the Italian Winter Sports Federation said on its website on Friday.
The 26-year-old Karbon, who won the bronze medal in the giant slalom at last month's world championships in Are, Sweden, suffered the injury during slalom training in Val di Fassa on Thursday.
The giant slalom specialist, who was not planning to race the speed events in Tarvisio this weekend, has one World Cup win to her name, in Alta Badia in 2003.
She would have hoped to race in Zwiesel, Germany, next weekend and at the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, from March 14-18.
