Adam Malysz opens with longest jump


ZAKOPANE, Poland -- Adam Malysz of Poland won a World Cup ski jump event Friday, opening with the longest jump of the event to hold off Andreas Kofler of Austria.

Malysz jumped 138.5 and 128.5 meters to score 269.9 points, beating Kofler by 5.4 points.

Severin Freund of Germany was third with 264.0 points after jumping 137 meters on his first leap.

Kofler cut into the overall lead of countryman Thomas Morgenstern, who finished fifth. Morgenstern has 1,268 points, with the second-place Kofler improving to 851.

Simon Ammann of Switzerland is third overall with 803 points.
