Hannah Kearney of U.S. notches win
WILMINGTON, N.Y. -- Defending Olympic champion Hannah Kearney of the United States and Guilbaut Colas of France skied to freestyle World Cup victories Saturday, winning moguls events at Whiteface Mountain.
Kearney, of Norwich, Vt., held onto her lead in the World Cup moguls standings, earning her third title of the season ahead of two Canadians, runner-up Jennifer Heil and Audrey Robichaud in third.
Kearney finished with the top qualifying score in the first heat and clinched the win with a solid second run as the final racer down the course.
"I skied a pretty good first run, which put me in a good position for the final," she said. "Clean turns were the highlight of my day."
Kearney, who also won at Whiteface a year ago, rebounded from a fall last week at Mount Gabriel, Quebec, that left her ninth.
Heather McPhie placed fourth for the U.S., Eliza Outtrim was fifth and Alison Digravio took ninth.
Colas kept his lead in the men's standings with his second victory of the season. Alexandre Bilodeau of Canada was second and Jeremy Cota of the U.S. placed third.
David Digravio was fifth for the U.S. and Joseph Discoe finished ninth.
