Poland pulls off sweep to win
ATHENS, Greece -- Sydney gold medalists Serbia and Montenegro were defeated 3-0 by Poland in Sunday's opening match of the Olympic men's volleyball tournament.
Poland swept the match 25-21, 25-17, 25-16, in Group A, giving the Serbs no chance to get into the game. Sebastian Swiderski scored 20 points, while Piotr Gruszka took 15 and Dawid Murke 12, including five aces.
"We were very focussed on the match, but we will not cheer yet, because there are five more matches to come,'' Swiderski said after the game.
Ivan Miljkovic led Serbia with 17 points, including four aces.
In a tight Group B match, the Netherlands defeated Russia 3-2 with a score of 25-23, 19-25, 17-25, 27-25, 18-16.
