Takin' a dive: Colwill captures springboard gold
INDIANAPOLIS -- Chris Colwill won the gold medal in the 1-meter springboard in the U.S. Diving Championships on Thursday.
Colwill, third in the event in the World Cup last month, was in second place after his first dive but took control after that. The 2004 winner closed the event with a 78.40-point dive to finish with a score of 414.35.
Burkley Showe finished at 367.20, and Matthew Cooper was third at 353.85.
In the men's 10-meter platform, J.J. Kinsbach had the high score in the semifinals with Harrison Jones just behind him. Defending champion Thomas Finchum and U.S. Open champion David Boudia were in third and fourth place, respectively.
Christina Loukas had the top score in the 3-meter springboard semifinals. Margaret Hostage was second and defending champion Kelci Bryant third.
Semifinal scores are dropped and the divers start over for the finals. The men's 10-meter platform and women's 3-meter springboard finals will be held Saturday afternoon.
