U.S., Europe in 'Duel in the Pool'
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The top swimmers from Britain, Germany and Italy will take on a team of Americans in the biannual Duel in the Pool in Manchester, England.
The two-hour event, to be held Dec. 18-19, will air Dec. 27 on NBC.
The U.S. team of up to 18 men and 18 women will comprise swimmers from this year's U.S. nationals, World University Games, U.S. Open and world championships. Each country on the European team will send six men and six women. The rosters will be announced Oct. 28.
The races will be swum in short-course meters, with world records earning a $15,000 bonus and $1,000 going to winners of each event.
Previous Duel in the Pool events in 2003, 2005 and 2007 featured teams from the United States and Australia, with the Americans winning each time.
