Cesar Cielo ruling draws scrutiny
LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- The director of swimming's governing body says its lawyers are studying a Brazilian ruling which gave Olympic champion Cesar Cielo just a warning after he failed a doping test.
Cornel Marculescu says FINA now has 21 days to launch an appeal challenging the verdict at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Swim events at FINA's world championships start in 20 days in Shanghai.
Cielo and three teammates tested positive for furosemide, a banned diuretic and masking agent, in May.
Brazil's swim federation accepted last week that they took a contaminated supplement and cleared them to swim at the worlds.
Cielo won 50-meter freestyle gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
