MILAN -- Italian rider Alessandro Petacchi's lawyer says the cyclist is cooperating with authorities conducting a doping investigation in Italy.
Italian media have reported that prosecutors in the Italian city of Padua are investigating the 36-year-old Petacchi for possible use of banned substances earlier this year.
Petacchi's lawyer issued a statement Tuesday saying "he has already given his fullest availability to the relevant bodies with the intention of clarifying his position, and is sure to provide all the necessary information."
Petacchi is the leading sprinter at the Tour de France and has won two stages.
