Friday, March 1, 2002 Kostelic to skip super-G race Associated Press ZAGREB, Croatia -- Janica Kostelic, the Croatian ski star who won a record four medals at the Salt Lake City Olympics, will skip World Cup super-G race this weekend to prepare for the Cup's finals. The 20-year-old skier will continue training until the finals in Flachau, Austria, which start next Wednesday. The super-G race, to be held this weekend in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, was never Kostelic's favorite, though she won silver in the discipline at the Olympics. She also won golds in the combined, the slalom and the giant slalom. The decision to skip the race in Switzerland was taken by Janica's father and coach, Ante, the state-run news agency HINA reported Friday. Janica's brother Ivica, the leader of the World Cup slalom standings, also will compete in the finals at Flachau. |
