PARK CITY, Utah -- Three-time Olympian Todd Lodwick and Bill Demong, each winners of a World Cup event this season, lead the seven Americans who will compete in Nordic Combined at next month's Salt Lake Games.

The U.S. ski team made the announcement Tuesday.

Lodwick, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., won the fifth World Cup of his career in December, while Demong won an event Sunday in the Czech Republic.

Also named to the Olympic team were two other skiers from Steamboat Springs, Johnny Spillane and Kristoffer Erichsen, as well as Matt Dayton of Breckenridge, Colo., Jed Hinkley of Andover, N.H., and Carl Van Loan of Webster, N.H.

Selection was based on international results.

"This is, without question, our strongest Nordic Combined Olympic team," said coach Tom Steitz. "Two guys have won, another one (Dayton) has been top five in a World Cup. ... It's not a stretch to be thinking about a medal."
