Sunday, January 27, 2002 Austria beats Japan in team event Associated Press SAPPORO, Japan -- Austria beat reigning Olympic champion Japan in a World Cup ski jumping team event Sunday for its second victory of the season. Austria's Andreas Widhoelzl, Martin Koch, Stefan Horngacher and Wolgang Loitzl collected 1,006.7 points at the Okurayama K-120 hill, finishing 58.9 points ahead of Japan. Finland was third. Loitzl and Widhoelzl both went 136 meters on their second attempts, the day's longest jumps. Austria stayed atop the Nation Cup standings with 3,924 total points. Germany is second with 3,522, with Finland next with 3,132. |
