KREISCHBERG, Austria -- France made a strong showing in World Cup snowboarding Saturday with victories by Thomas Bourgault and Deborah Anthonioz.

Bourgault registered his first World Cup victory this season, defeating countryman Aymerick Mermoz in a snowboardcross event.

Bourgault's previous best this season was third in a snowboardcross in December in Whistler, British Columbia. He is ranked third in snowboardcross and 36th in the overall World Cup standings.

Italy's Simone Malusa was third. Slovenia's Dejan Kosir, who leads the World Cup, did not compete but kept his lead.

Among the women, Anthonioz is ranked fifth in snowboardcross and 64th in the overall standings. Austrians Ursula Fingerlos and Doris Krings were second and third.

World Cup leader Karine Ruby of France did not participate but retained her overall lead.
