Lew's announced today the signing of two-time Elite Series champion and Bassmaster Classic qualifier Kevin Short. Short will use the Lew's Speed Spool and Speed Spin line of reels during competition on the Bassmaster Elite Series, Bassmaster Opens, and FLW EverStart Series during 2011. Considered by many as a river rat and shallow crankbait specialist, Short has been a threat to win several Elite Series events since 2006 before winning in 2009 at the Mississippi River out of Fort Madison, Iowa, and again in 2010 at Lake Pickwick out of Florence, Ala.
"I've been using the Lew's Tournament Pro and Tournament reels since July of last year", Short said, "and they have performed far beyond my expectations. The Tournament Pro has become my favorite because of its incredible light weight, 6.7 ounces, and the durability that I've seen. One of the fastest ways to wear any reel down is cranking and I have made many, many thousands of casts with the Tournament Pro since July. The only way I can tell that first Tournament Pro reel from a new one is to look for the dirt on the line guide it's still as smooth as the first cast! That's impressive. Lighter, faster, stronger is more than a catch phrase at Lew's. It's just what we do.
"In addition to the fantastic reels, I'm just as excited about working with Lynn Reeves and his staff at Lew's", Short continued. "Lynn and his crew have not just years but multiple decades of experience in the tackle industry and have been responsible for bringing numerous brands to the forefront of the market place. I look for them to put the Lew's brand back on top in short order."
"We at Lew's are excited to have Kevin with Team Lew's," stated Lynn Reeves of Lew's. "Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge regarding the needs of the tournament angler and also has a great grasp on where the tackle market is headed today. We feel that he will be an asset in promoting the Lew's brand and that Lew's Speed Spool and Speed Spin reels will help him perform at the upper level of the Bassmaster Elite Series."
Lighter. Faster. Stronger. That was the original claim made by founder Lew Childre when the Speed Spool was first introduced in the 1970s. It remains true today. The newest baitcasters from Lew's feature the latest in materials and technology.
