The 2008 Elite Series season opens in Central Florida with the Sunshine Showdown on the Harris Chain of Lakes, March 6-9, hosted by the City of Leesburg and the Lake County Department of Tourism. With 9 lakes in the chain covering approximately 76,000 surface acres, there will be plenty of water to go around. BASS last visited the Harris Chain in early February 2005 when Peter Thliveros won the Bassmaster Tour event with a 4-day total of 69 pounds, 5 ounces. He took the top spot by slowly working a spinnerbait through canal intersections in search of spawning largemouth.
With the 2008 Elite event coming a month later in the year, there will likely be fewer spawners to target, but it's still likely to be a good tournament for sight fishermen. Weather permitting, the Harris Chain should produce several double-digit bass and a winning weight in excess of 60 pounds.
