Why so cold?
Is it just me or do any of you who live in the Great Lakes region of the U.S. feel tired of the cold?
I know, I know, it's November and the upper regions of the country get colder, but I'm talking about all of 2009. At almost every turn, this past spring, summer and fall thus far, when I've had time to go fishing it rained and or was chilly, in fact downright cold. I read an article that claimed northern Illinois, the state where I live, only had two days of sunshine in October. Two!
Maybe it's my advancing age, but I am sure becoming a wimp when it comes to fishing. I use to joke that I would only go out into poor weather conditions to fish if I was getting paid.
I use to guide a bit so I actually did get paid, or when I had my money plunked down in a tournament. It used to be my semi-humorous mantra (at least to me), but now it's the truth.
Instead of aggressively braving the elements I complain about the cold and plop my backside on the sofa and play a few thousand games on our family Wii. Not the fishing games too often, not real enough for me, but that table tennis is cool. I used to play the Wii baseball a lot, but I actually injured my knee last year trying to emulate the Albert Pujols' home run swing.
Lame, certainly, but the cold, the cold, the cold.
What gives with this cold wet weather? As I am writing this little ditty today the sun is out, there are leaves to be raked, window trimming to be painted and gutters to be emptied.
I don't have to be anywhere, hmmm? It's sunny and in the 50s. What to do?
