MANY, La. — Stan Pace of Sikeston, Mo., set the bar high on the first day of the McDonald's Big Bass Splash on Lake Toledo Bend with his 10.13-pound bass, which won the $1,000 noon weigh-in prize.

Tim AblesStan Pace, from Sikeston, Mo., shows off this 10.1-pounder, which puts him in first place for Day One.
Almost a pound and a half back was Lance Huges of Center, Texas, with an 8.70-pounder. He was followed closely by the 8.68-pounder brought in by Chad Dyess of Calcasieu, La.

The other top five placers were also close, with Shreveport, La., angler Todd Johnson weighing in an 8.54-pound fish and Elmer Edwards of Converse, La., only .01 back.

Edwards was the only one of the five not to win the $1,000 hourly prize as he was second to Dyess in the 8-9 a.m. hour and won $900 of the $154,800 in hourly cash paybacks for the top 12 bass.

First place in the three-day event at Cypress Bend Park is a Sportsman Package of a 2008 Dodge Ram and a Triton bass boat powered by a Mercury motor and equipped with Minn Kota, Lowrance and Navionics.

Second place is awarded a Dodge Truck and a Hideout Travel Trailer goes to the third-largest bass. Fourth and fifth place fish each win Bad Boy Buggy ATVs.

An angler bringing in the first 3.00 exact weight bass on any day will win a Triton boat powered by Mercury and equipped with Minn Kota and Lowrance. No angler accomplished the feat Friday.

Also, each contestant in the event is eligible for a drawing to win a Triton boat powered by Mercury and equipped with Minn Kota and Lowrance.
