Final day catch wins Big Bass Splash

Angler's 9.48-pounder tops field in 25th anniversary

ALBA, Texas — Don Jarrell saved the best for last.

The Henderson, Texas, angler caught a 9.48-pound bass on Sunday, the final day of the McDonald's Big Bass Splash on Lake Fork, to win the event and a Dodge Ram Truck plugs a Triton G20HP Powered by Mercury 200 ProXS Optimax.

Charles Gilbert of Ector, Texas, who led after Saturday with his 8.95-pound catch, finished second and won a Dodge Truck and a Triton 17EXP Powered by Mercury.

First day leader Lawrence Winchester of Atlanta, Texas, fell to third but his 8.79-pounder earned him a Layton Travel Trailer.

In the 25th anniversary of the Big Bass Splash, there were 1,039 fish caught out of Lake Fork over the three day and they totaled 2,103.37 pounds.

With $400,000 in guaranteed payouts, there were loads of winners.

Kenneth Self of Salem, N.H., won the elimination drawing for a Triton 17EXP Powered by Mercury and in an open drawing John White of Dallas won a Layton Travel Trailer. In the Big Splash Giveaway, Sandra Sumner of Guntersville, Ala., took home $25,000.

In the early bird registration drawing, five entrants each took hom $200 Academy Sports + Outdoors gift cards.
