ORLANDO, Fla. — The Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show may be the only place you can set out to turn $2,000 into one buck and scarcely get change back.

The scope of the place can be overwhelming. This year it was 48,000 buyers, exhibitors and media-types anthilling into the Orlando Convention Center's 715,000 square feet of dedicated exhibit space.

To make sense of it, we devised a challenge. We imagined ourselves as consumers (instead of wholesale buyers, who make up a majority of attendees) with two grand to spend to outfit a deer hunt in Wisconsin, stem to stern.

This seemed like a simple exercise. After all, $2,000 is quite a slab of change, right? But then we started wandering around the big boy toy department … Eifling's gear | Carter's gear
