Questions on the Classic

BASS Fantasy Fishing | 2009 Classic Archive

Just because they're not at the Classic doesn't mean they're not thinking about it. Elite Series anglers that fell just short of qualifying answer questions and make predictions.

John Murray
1. Who is your pick to win the classic and why?
"Skeet Reese, because he's had some close finishes."
2. Where do you think Kim Bain will end up?
"In the top half of the field, probably. She's a tremendous fisherman. I mean she's whooped my butt a few times. She's really done her homework, but your first Classic for anybody is tough, man or woman."
3. Will you be following the coverage of the event on television or online?
"I'll use both."

Jared Lintner
1. Who is your pick to win the classic and why?
"I'd say [Greg] Hackney, because he's won big tournaments before. He's the best river fisherman I know, especially at certain things like powerfishing. He knows how to find them."
2. Where do you think Kim Bain will end up?
"She's a really good fisherman, but I'd say somewhere mid-pack. I don't think she's going to finish in the top, and I don't think she will finish at the very bottom. There is a lot of pressure and attention on her. It all depends on if she can keep her mental game together. I'm really interested to see how it all turns out."
3. Will you be following the coverage of the event on television or online?
"Well I wish I was there fishing it, but I'll probably have my wife calling me and keeping me updated."

James Niggemeyer
1. Who is your pick to win the classic and why?
"At this level of the game, there are so many good names out there. The competition is so stiff, but I'm leaning toward Greg Hackney. It's the type of fishing that he excels at that will be going on in the Classic. Hackney is the guy to watch out for."
2. Where do you think Kim Bain will end up?
"It's a loaded question, but she's done some great fishing recently. If she gets around the right fish, she could be in the top 25 and have a good tournament. That is such a hard question to answer because we don't have too many women competing at this level and she has that x-factor that she has been catching fish well all year, consistently. She could possibly fish on Sunday."
3. Will you be following the coverage of the event on television or online?
"I'll be there (at the Classic) working for my sponsors."

Jeff Kriet
1. Who is your pick to win the classic and why?
"Todd Faircloth. I just have a feeling that he will win it. He's had a really good year and he's a really good fisherman. I think he can grind it out."
2. Where do you think Kim Bain will end up?
"There's going to be some really good fisherman out there. I think she'll finish in the bottom corner, but not last."
3. Will you be following the coverage of the event on television or online?
"I'll be there for most parts of it, but I will use it all. I always try and get as much info on what's happening as I can."

Stephen Browning
1. Who is your pick to win the classic and why?
"Greg Hackney, because he is the best backwater river fisherman, without a doubt."
2. Where do you think Kim Bain will end up?
"I'd say about the bottom third."
3. Will you be following the coverage of the event online or on TV?
"Both of them, to be quite honest. I'll have the TV on as much as possible."
