Pros pick Elite Series #5

4/29/2008

Before you complete your fantasy picks for the "Pride of Augusta" CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series on Clarks Hill Lake you might want to check out who the pros dialed in to have a shot at winning.

Bassmaster.com caught up with a few of the Elite angler during Wednesday's registration and asked who they thought were the anglers to watch. Most think there are a number of patterns that could work on the 70,000-acre impoundment, so the picks cover a wide range of the field. Here is what they had to say:

Jeremy Starks
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:

•  Aaron Martens because it's clear water and there will probably be some bed fishing.

•  Preston Clark because I think there will be some bed fishing.

•  Gerald Swindle because he's really good at junking them up because there is going to be a lot of different ways to catch fish.

Ray Sedgwick
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
•  It's different. There are still a few fish bedding so probably Preston (Clark).

•  There's also a good topwater bite going and I know Bernie Schultz is pretty good at the topwater bite.

•  You can't count out old (Denny) Brauer because he's a good flipper and there is some good flipping water up the river. I'd say that is a pretty broad field.

Mike Wurm
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?: State Troopers, county sheriffs and the park rangers.

Jami Fralick
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
I was pretty good with my picks at Santee, I got two out of my three in the top 10.

•  Kevin Wirth and that's just a gut feeling.

•  I'm going to say Steve Kennedy because he's got three top tens this year already.

•  Brian Snowden because he is due.

Pete Ponds
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
•  Steve Kennedy because he is just on fire.

•  Terry Scroggins because he's a good sight-fisherman.

•  Let's go with Preston (Clark) because he is hot right now.

Steve Kennedy
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
•  Kevin VanDam because they are schooling on those main lake points early so he'll probably kill them on a spinnerbait.

•  Zell Rowland because there is a good topwater bite.

•  (Greg) Hackney because it's him.

Darrin Schwenkbeck
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?: I'm hearing that some bed fisherman might be on some stuff but I don't know if it's going to last though.

•  If that is the case, obviously I think Kelly Jordon and Dean Rojas will be top on the bed fishing deal.

•  Kevin VanDam is going to be strong out here as well. I know I'm doing something that he likes to do so I guarantee he will be catching them.

Kevin Langill
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
•  Mike Reynolds because he won it here last year, but it is a different time of the year.

•  I think Guy Eaker will be tough.

•  And you've always got to watch out for Mike Iaconelli. He is on fire right now.

Gerald Swindle
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:

•  Jason Quinn

•  Davy Hite,

•  Jeff Reynolds.
I think Jeff Reynolds is a young gun and a top rookie. He moves around the lake quite a bit. Quinn and Hite have a lot of local knowledge and have fished on this lake a lot.

Shaw Grigsby
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
•  (Mike) Iaconelli because he is tough and hot right now.

•  Kevin VanDam because he is obviously motivated.

•  The third one would be Gary Klein because he is the most well-rounded angler in the field.

Russ Lane
Which three anglers would you watch out for to win this tournament and why?:
•  Jason Quinn

•  Davy Hite

•  And I would say myself.
