  • Bassmaster Elite Series pro Mike McClelland from nearby Bella Vista, Ark., won the 2006 Elite Series event on Grand Lake with a four-day total weighing 79-7. He bested second place finisher Matt Reed by nearly 15 1/2 pounds!
  • Grand Lake O' The Cherokees was created in 1940 with the completion of Pensacola Dam. It covers 46,500 surface acres and has 1,300 miles of shoreline.
  • Grand Lake is one of only two major lakes in the state where residents can own lakefront property on the water's edge, making it a popular location among dock fishermen.
  • Former Classic champ Ken Cook is an Oklahoma resident and fan of Grand Lake. After finishing a dismal 279th in the 1991 Oklahoma Invitational, he improved to 27th in 1992, second in 1995 and 8th in the 2006 Elite Series event.
