Bassmaster Elite Series pro Mike McClelland from nearby Bella Vista, Ark., won the 2006 Elite Series event on Grand Lake with a four-day total weighing 79-7. He bested second place finisher Matt Reed by nearly 15 1/2 pounds!
Grand Lake O' The Cherokees was created in 1940 with the completion of Pensacola Dam. It covers 46,500 surface acres and has 1,300 miles of shoreline.
Grand Lake is one of only two major lakes in the state where residents can own lakefront property on the water's edge, making it a popular location among dock fishermen.
Former Classic champ Ken Cook is an Oklahoma resident and fan of Grand Lake. After finishing a dismal 279th in the 1991 Oklahoma Invitational, he improved to 27th in 1992, second in 1995 and 8th in the 2006 Elite Series event.
