2012 recap: Smith ran the first 30 races in the No. 78 Chevrolet for Furniture Row Racing, posting three top-10s. Smith subbed for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in two Chase races while Earnhardt was out with a concussion. Smith finished seventh at Kansas while driving Earnhardt's No. 88 Chevy. Smith closed out the season driving two races in the No. 51 Chevy for Phoenix Racing. He finished a career-best 24th in the standings even though he sat out two races.
