Five riders split Round Six victory at World Finals
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 7, 2009) — The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) saw history made in front of the sold-out Saturday night crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Nev. In round six of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, five riders scored 89.25 points to split first place in the round — a feat that has never been done before. Each of the five riders collected a check for $14,000 for their efforts.
World no. 1 rider Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) rode the bull, Chester, owned by Mendell/Jaeger while 2008 PBR Canada National Champion Aaron Roy (Asquith, SK, Canada) took on the bull, Big Iron of 4L & Diamond S Rodeo Company. Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.) on Circle T Ranch & Rodeo's bull, Frosty, Cody Nance (Paris, Tenn.) rode Foolish Pride of 4L & Diamond S Rodeo Company, and Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil) on Grey Dog, owned by D&H Cattle Company, rounded out the five men who split the round. In the event average, Lostroh has moved up to only .5 points behind Mauney who has been battling it out for the ultimate title in bull riding.
"I approach tomorrow the same way I've been doing it all year," said Lostroh when asked on how he is feeling about tomorrow's final conclusive rounds. "I keep it as simple as possible because that's what works for me."
The race for the ultimate title in bull riding concludes tomorrow after the final long round and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. The race is going strong as the top two bull riders in the world, Kody Lostroh and J.B. Mauney, have matched each other, bull for bull. Each man has ridden six bulls and they sit only .5 points apart in the World Finals average. Only one long round along with the Built Ford Tough Championship Round remain, and PBR will crown a new World Champion who will be rewarded the $1 million bonus courtesy of Ford and the coveted gold buckle!
