Bobcats hope for Hollywood hype, NASCAR style

Charlotte Bobcats executive Fred Whitfield had a bright idea. Sell NASCAR drivers and officials -- many of whom live in the area year-round -- on the NBA and that would help the Bobcats sell their franchise to the Charlotte community, writes Marty Smith.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Not long ago, NASCAR was a 200 mph Jeff Foxworthy joke -- and still is for folks unwilling to look beyond the antiquated beer-swillin', 'baccer chawin' redneck stereotypes.
