CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carl Edwards will go to Phoenix International Raceway this week with a new front tire changer after a pit road mistake at Texas Motor Speedway cost him a shot at victory.
"The new guy we've got is young and all amped up and ready to go," Edwards said of the change made by Roush Fenway Racing. "I hope he does well at Phoenix. I'm a little nervous about that one. Pit road is extremely important. I wish it was Talladega [next week] where if you lose a spot it's not the end of the world."
At Texas, Edwards was leading when he headed for pit road with about 30 laps remaining. He came out 11th after a loose lug nut got away from a right side tire changer, resulting in a lengthy stop.
Edwards said he didn't have to ask for the change after Texas.
"Robbie Reiser can put together the best pit crew on pit road," he said of the Roush Fenway general manager and former crew chief for Matt Kenseth. "He knows how to do that."
Edwards' pit crew has been in a state of flux this season because of injuries to two members. A pair of Greg Biffle's crewmen helped at Martinsville.
